Brean Beach Clean

In collaboration with Precision Resource Group (PRG) this week we travelled down to the beautiful Brean Beach! In the heart of Somerset 10 employees cleared for nearly two hours to tidy up this stretch of coastline.

After the recent weeks of heavy rain, we were excited to get back out onto the beach and start litter-picking again. Brean beach being a new location for us, we were keen to collect as much rubbish as possible. With the help of some amazing volunteers from PRG, we not only had a great time but also collected bag after bag of litter.

At first look you would be forgiven for thinking there was no rubbish on this beach for us to collect. However, especially in this season, litter and waste is almost guaranteed with closer inspection revealing lots littered across the sand. From large items such as abandoned children’s crocs, to tiny microplastics.

In addition to items left on the beach by visitors, a number of items had clearly washed ashore also. Lots of short pieces of netting were found, the result of fishing gear discarded at sea known as ghost gear. In between the large rocks we also found lots of plastic items that had clearly been there for a long time, washed up by high-tide and trapped between the stones.

Some of the more unusual things we found included:

  • A pair of abandoned pink crocs
  • A baby doll
  • A huge plastic block meant to hold up pedestrian fencing.
  • Sunglasses
  • A pair of shorts

Getting stuck in and competitive we couldn’t have asked for a better group to join us on this day with volunteers from PRG collecting an impressive 16 bags weighing in at 38.3 kg of rubbish, a seriously impressive haul we couldn’t be happier with!

We have to mention the amazing beach team at Brean who not only worked with us to organise the event, but also helped us to correct dispose of the collected litter afterwards. It was a pleasure to be welcomed onto your beach and we cant wait to work together again in the future.

Thanks again to Precision Resource Group for partnering up with us, and an even bigger thank you to the employees who joined us, volunteering their time to do some great charitable work!

This brings our total for the year to 187 bags and 528.25 kilos cleaned across our cleans, we can’t wait to increase this number and finish the year strong!
