Last week, Life’s a Beach had a fantastic morning delivering our education workshops to the students at Springbank Primary School!

We kicked things off with an engaging assembly on plastic pollution. This session introduces children to the work we do at Life’s a Beach, while helping them understand what plastic is, why it can be harmful, how it ends up on our beaches, and what we can do to make a difference.

After the assembly, we visited each class for a hands-on activity: our decomposition timeline. Working in small groups, the pupils were challenged to estimate how long common household items, such as plastic bottles, gloves, and wet wipes, take to break down. We were really impressed by the thoughtful discussions and teamwork shown as the students carefully decided where each item should go.

Once we revealed and talked through the answers, it was time to take action! Equipped with high-vis vests, litter pickers, and buckets, the children headed out to clean up their school grounds. The pupils showed great determination in their efforts, with some even venturing into bushes to retrieve hidden rubbish. Altogether, they removed an impressive 6.3kg of litter from the environment!

A huge well done to the 65 students at Springbank Primary for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and hard work and thank you to the school community for making us feel so welcome! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hope the experience has inspired them to continue caring for their environment.
