Inspiring Future Eco-Warriors at Highnam School!

A recent action-packed day at Highnam C of E Academy saw us speak to 210 students about the dangers of plastic pollution. The sessions aimed to educate and inspire the next generation about the importance of protecting our environment, with hands-on activities designed to make learning fun and memorable.

Pupils had to work in teams to decide how they thought common household items would take to break down, placing them along the timeline. At the end of each session we talked through what the groups had gotten right and wrong, and all the students agreed that household waste items take far longer to break down than they had expected. It showed how important it is to recycle, and use less where possible.

But the day didn’t stop there! A dedicated group of 18 young eco-champions from the school council joined in for a litter pick around the school grounds. Armed with litter pickers, they worked together to collect an impressive 13.3kg of waste, making a huge difference to their school’s outdoor spaces.

From understanding the impact of waste on wildlife to learning how small actions can create big change, the students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination. Their energy and commitment were truly inspiring!

A massive well done to all the students who took part—your efforts are helping to create a cleaner, greener future. And a big thank you to the school for welcoming the initiative so warmly. We can’t wait to see how these young environmentalists continue to make a difference!
