Westward Ho! Beach Clean

On the 4th of July, Life’s a Beach teamed up with the Torrington Girlguiding and the ProCook Bideford store to help clean Westward Ho! beach in North Devon.

With ages ranging from just 4 to 17, with of course some very helpful adults, the Rainbows, Brownies, and Guides came together to help tackle this beach clean as a group. These groups help young women to build confidence and skills for the future, as well as forming friendships and discovering new talents. Therefore Life’s a Beach was delighted to support these young women wanting to take positive action to help save the planet and improve their local area.

At first glance, Westward Ho! beach looks pristine and free of rubbish, but it didn’t take us very long to find rubbish hiding amongst the pebbles and washed up by the tide.

After two hours of cleaning, enjoying the last sunshine of the day, we gathered a total of nine bags of rubbish. Some of the more interesting things we found were netting, a surfboard fin, and even a bottle of mayonnaise!

Thank you not only to the wonderful members of the Rainbows, Brownies, and Guides who worked hard; but also to the adult volunteers and parents who helped alongside.

Thank you also to the Bideford ProCook store for arranging this collaboration. We had an amazing time and made a great difference!
