We headed up to West Kirby Beach for a litter pick with the brilliant team at Influential Agency. Despite the very windy conditions, 20 volunteers came along ready to get stuck in and give the beach a good clean!
The team spread out across the beach, searching through the sand and carefully picking their way between the rocks to find litter that had been left behind. The wind certainly made things a little more challenging, but that didn’t stop everyone from getting stuck in and working together.
There was plenty of litter to be found, including smaller pieces that can easily go unnoticed. A lot of the rubbish had become caught between the rocks or buried in the sand, so it was great to see the team taking the time to make sure nothing was missed.We also came across lots of empty shark egg cases. These little cases, sometimes known as mermaid’s purses, are a brilliant reminder of the wildlife that calls our coastlines home. As they were empty, we were able to leave them where we found them and carry on with the clean.
After two hours the team had collected an impressive 39.08kg of litter! That’s 39kg of rubbish that has now been removed from the beach and won’t have the chance to make its way into the sea.
A huge thank you to all 20 volunteers from Influential for braving the wind and spending the day helping us clean up West Kirby Beach. It was fantastic to see such a great group getting involved and making a real difference to the local environment.
