We recently visited the fantastic TwoCan Group to talk all things plastic pollution, sustainability and how we can all make a difference!
TwoCan is a fantastic local theatre company based in Gloucestershire, bringing people together through creativity, and performance arts. They create opportunities for people of all abilities to get involved, build confidence, develop new skills and express themselves. They also help prepare people for future opportunities, supporting them to develop their independence, skills and confidence along the way. It’s all about making theatre accessible and giving everyone the chance to get creative! You can learn more about the work TwoCan does here.
It was brilliant to see how engaged everyone was, with some really thoughtful questions throughout our session. After a short talk about the plastic pollution crisis, we chatted and had a great open discussion. We talked about what actually happens to our recycling once it leaves the bin, the small changes we can make in our everyday lives to become more sustainable, and the dangers of plastic pollution to marine life.
Next up was our decomposition timeline challenge! Working in pairs, everyone had to put their knowledge to the test by guessing how long different everyday items take to break down if they aren’t recycled or disposed of correctly. From paper towels and drinks cans, to rubber gloves, the pairs placed each item along the timeline after plenty of discussion.

There were some big surprises along the way, particularly when it came to items like wet wipes, plastic toothbrushes and shopping bags. It’s easy to overlook these everyday products, but they can stick around in our environment for far longer than we might expect! We finished with a brilliant discussion about ways to reduce our plastic use, looking at simple swaps and more sustainable alternatives that we can all start making. Small things like switching to a bamboo toothbrush, refilling a water bottle, and reusing shopping bags can all add up to make a huge difference.

This is just the beginning of our work with the wonderful people at TwoCan! We’re looking forward to visiting TwoCan several more times, with two local litter picks planned in 2026 and a beach clean in 2027. It’s a great opportunity to take everything we’ve discussed and put it into action in the local community.
A huge thank you to everyone at TwoCan for having us and getting involved. We loved meeting you all and can’t wait to work together again!
