This week we headed to Southend-on-Sea for a fantastic beach clean with a brilliant team of volunteers from Mastercard! Eight dedicated volunteers joined us on the beach, giving up their time to help tackle litter and protect our coastline. Together, the team spent the session searching the beach for everything from small pieces of plastic to larger items of rubbish that could otherwise make their way into the marine environment.

Some interesting things found included a trolley frame, 23 socks, two sun hats, planks of wood, and handfuls of party poppers. By the end of the clean, the team had collected an incredible 35.98 kilograms of litter! Beach cleans like this are a great reminder of the difference that can be made when people come together. Every piece of litter removed is one less item that could enter our oceans, harm wildlife or break down into smaller pieces of plastic pollution.

A huge thank you to the eight volunteers from Mastercard for getting stuck in and helping us keep Southend-on-Sea’s coastline cleaner. We’re incredibly grateful for their time, enthusiasm and commitment to making a positive difference.
