Ruardean Primary Cleans Up!

Ruardean Primary became the most recent school to join our Waste Less Schools Initiative! Life’s a Beach spent the afternoon with an amazing group of students, teaching them all about plastic pollution and how to protect our beaches!

The day began with an engaging assembly introducing the students to the issue of plastic pollution; what it is, why it’s harmful, how it reaches our beaches, and what we can do to help. Each class then took part in our Decomposition Timeline Activity, working in small groups to sort through buckets of household rubbish and guess how long each item takes to break down.

After placing their items along a physical timeline, we revealed the real answers and everyone was shocked by how long some everyday items take to decompose! The students came up with fantastic ideas for sustainable alternatives to help reduce plastic waste.

Finally, each class headed outdoors to put their learning into action with a litter pick around the school grounds and surrounding area. Together, the students collected an impressive 8.91 kilograms of litter!

This shows how small actions can make a big difference, every student contributed to creating a cleaner, greener school environment!

A huge thank you to Ruardean Primary for welcoming Life’s a Beach, and well done to all the students for their enthusiasm, great questions, and teamwork. We hope you enjoyed the day and feel inspired to keep protecting our planet!
