West Ashton Primary Litter Picks!

We went back to West Ashton for a second annual visit. The entire school has been working hard since our last visit to reduce their plastic waste and keep their local tidy!

After our whole school assembly, each class came and worked on our decomposition timeline. In teams they decided how long every day household items take to break down when not properly recycled. Many of the pupils were surprised that hard plastic items like a toothbrush take longer than metal drinks cans to degrade.

After working through our workshop each class then went out into different parts of the school grounds to litter pick. We loved seeing the team work in action as the pupils worked to clean up their school and the surrounding environment. Their enthusiasm was infectious and they filled bucket after bucket of plastic rubbish.

Whilst we mostly found the usual suspects of crisp packets, broken toys, and wrappers, we also found some unusual items. We found a camp shower, a TV remote, car parts, pipes, and a collection of CDs dated to 2005! At the end of the day the 98 pupils collected up 8.98 kilos of rubbish, making a great difference to their local environment.

Thanks West Ashton Primary for having us back for a second year! We were inspired by everyone’s enthusiasm! If you would like to book your school in for one of our free education days, email hello@lifesabeach.org to find out more.
