A recent visit to Soudley Primary School saw us speak to 42 children about the dangers of plastic pollution. The sessions aimed to educate and inspire the next generation about the importance of protecting our environment, with hands-on activities designed to make learning fun and memorable.

The students had to work in teams to decide how long they thought common household items would take to break down, placing them along the timeline. At the end of each session we talked through what the groups had gotten right and wrong, and all the students agreed that household waste items take far longer to break down than they had expected. It showed how important it is to recycle, and use less where possible.

But the day didn’t stop there! Each group of students, geared up with hi vis and litterpickers for a litter pick around the school grounds. They worked together to collect an impressive 4.15kg of waste, just from the school field and playground!

We were really impressed, as one of the classes took all their collected litter back to class, and sorted through everything to see what they had found! There were lots of broken toys and snack wrappers, including this chocolate bar wrapper which expired in 2019 – making it older than some of the students!

We also really liked this display crafted from milk bottle caps on the school field – a great example of upcycling!

A massive well done to all the students at Soudley School who did an awesome job at listening, working in teams on the timeline activity and being very enthusiastic about finding as much litter as possible! We hope you are all feeling inspired to help reduce plastic pollution and look after our planet!
