Ashfield Park Eco Warriors!

Ashfield Park became the most recent school to join our Waste Less Schools Initiative! Life’s a Beach spent the day with 173 amazing students, teaching them all about plastic pollution and how to protect our beaches!

The day started with an assembly, introducing the students to plastic pollution, what it is, why it is bad, how it gets to the beach and what they can do to help! Each class then took part in our Decomposition Timeline Activity, where they work in small groups to sort through buckets of litter, and decide how long they think each item takes to biodegrade.

The students then place each item along a physical timeline before we talk through the answers. The general consensus is everyone was shocked at just how long some items take to decompose, and the students did an awesome job at coming up with sustainable alternatives to help reduce our plastic consumption!

Last, but definitely not least, each class went outside to put their learning into practice and litter pick the school grounds. In total, the whole school filled 3 black bags of litter which weighed an impressive 12.91 kilograms!

This just goes to show how little efforts make big differences – in this instance, 173 children volunteered just 20 minutes which resulted in a much cleaner school environment!

Thank you to Ashfield Park for having Life’s a Beach visit, and a huge well done to all the students who listened, asked great questions and got stuck into the activities! We hope you enjoyed the day and are feeling inspired to help protect the environment 🌍
