We were thrilled to welcome a brilliant team of 15 volunteers from Howden Insurance to Berrow Beach for a day of sun, sand, and serious beach cleaning!
Armed with litter pickers and plenty of sunscreen, our group set out under a blazing summer sun. It was gloriously warm, with clear skies and not a cloud in sight — perfect weather for rolling up our sleeves and getting stuck in.
After a quick safety briefing and a rundown of what to look out for (yes, even the sneaky microplastics), the Howden Insurance team got to work. Over the course of several hours, they scoured the beach, combing through dunes and tidelines to uncover all kinds of debris.
Together, we managed to collect a staggering 64.99 kilograms of litter. That’s nearly 65kg of rubbish that won’t be making its way into our oceans. Every bottle cap, fishing rope, and stray crisp packet makes a difference.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a Life’s a Beach clean without a few unexpected finds! Among the usual suspects were:
- A single flip-flop
- A mysterious, half-buried traffic cone
- Dozens of pieces of abandonded fishing nets
A huge thank you to the Howden Insurance team for their energy, positivity, and pure commitment. You made a massive difference, not just to Berrow Beach, but to our wider mission of protecting marine environments around the UK.
This clean-up brings our running total to 1283.94 kilos collected this year. We’re so proud to work with organisations like Howden Insurance who genuinely care about giving back. We had so much fun getting to know everyone!
